We wanted to take a few minutes to highlight one of the best things we offer at the library. Have you heard about 1000 Books Before Kindergarten?
Like all of our programs and classes for children, this is a free opportunity. It takes minutes to sign up, less than a minute to learn how to do it, and then you’re on your way to the next thing.
Are you looking for book club ideas? We have ready made book club kits that can help. Included in each kit are eight copies of the same book as well as discussion questions. The book club kits are located in the Cindy Casetta Barden Teachers' Resource Room in the children's area. Kits can be checked out for 60 days and you can check out up to three on one card.
Over the past couple of years, you may have noticed your child’s teachers placing greater emphasis on reading nonfiction. With the adoption of the Common Core Standards, elementary aged students are now expected to spend 50% of their reading time on literature and 50% on informational texts (nonfiction) to help them develop a deeper knowledge of the world.
