'Fill the Hexagon' winners announced


Hexagons are everywhere at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio, the new makerspace. They’re found in the interior, in the logo and, most prominently, in a display at the entrance in the lower level of the library.

Budgeting Basics Oct 18

Take control! “Budgeting Basics” at the Fond du Lac Public Library 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, will cover how to manage money, pay bills on time and find spending leaks to gain control of personal finances.

Taught by Shelley Tidemann from UW-Extension, the program is free; no registration required.

Tidemann is the family living educator for Fond du Lac County UW-Extension; she focuses on financial literacy, tenant housing education, family strengthening education and leadership education.

 

Teen Library Council resumes Oct 9

The Teen Library Council will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 9, and will meet the second Sunday of the month through the school year. The voluntary group meets to talk about the books, movies and music they like and to advise library staff on programs teens would find fun and interesting. Serving on the council, which acts as an advisory board to the library, satisfies community service and volunteer requirements at many schools. With snacks. Free; no registration required.

Special Halloween Storytime Oct 22

All ages are invited to come in costume to a special Halloween Storytime at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 22, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Storytimes at the library are fun and interactive, involving games and activities along with stories. Winners of the library’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest will be announced and prizes given following the stories. The program is free; no registration required.

Zine workshop at Idea Studio Oct 22

Wannabe publishers, writers, thinkers, opinion-expressers are invited to Cut and Paste: Zine Workshop at noon Saturday, October 22, at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. Zines are usually small, handmade magazines that often focus on a certain topic. The beauty of a zine is it can be about anything and take on any appearance the publisher wants. 

Sign-up for T-shirt quilt class starts Oct 20

In a two-part class, beginning sewers will learn how to make a quilted blanket using T-shirts and fleece fabric at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s makerspace, the Idea Studio.

'Robotics Experience' for teens Oct 29

Will robots rule the world? Maybe so, but before that happens, they can be a lot of fun. High school kids interested in robots and coding are invited to Fondy Fire Robotics Experience from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. The program is free, but space is limited and registration is required at the Calendar or by calling (920) 322-3929.

Karl L. Stewart, author of two Legend of See Bird Westerns and The Seventh Cruise, a World War II novel, will sell and sign copies of his books 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 1, at Chapter 52 Bookstore.
