Sign up now for Nov 5 Scrabble Bee

Calling all good spellers, competitors, social animals and good-deed-doers. The November 5 Scrabble Bee will challenge your brain as you have fun and benefit a great cause: Fond du Lac Literacy Services.

Signup is underway for the third annual Scrabble Bee, at Moraine Park Technical College, 235 N. National Ave., Fond du Lac. Teams of up to four players can sign up online at www.fdlpl.org/fdlliteracy or by calling (920) 322-3932. Minimum pledge per team is $50.

Registration and free pizza starts at 5 p.m., and play gets underway at 6 p.m. Teams will work together in two rounds – one 20 minute, and one 15 minute – using standard Scrabble boards and Scrabble rules. With a twist: during round two, each team will have 10 tiles taken away at random. Teams can buy back tiles of their choosing. The event will include pizza, a 50/50 raffle and prizes for the top two scoring teams in each level of competition.

The event is a fundraiser for Fond du Lac Literacy Services, which offers free one-on-one tutoring for adults who need help with reading, writing, math and English.

Event sponsors include Alliant Energy, The Service League of Fond du Lac, Eden Stone, J.F. Ahern, Society Insurance, Drexel Building Supply, C.W. Smith Jewelers, TTI Inc., Festival Foods Fond du Lac, Thomas Kraus DDS, Gallery & Frame Shop, Horicon Bank, Carl Helleberg, Mike Korb and John Welsch.
