Applications accepted for Idea Studio summer residency

Drop by the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio and you’re likely to see all kinds of creativity underway. Teens could be composing an original rap inside the recording studio. Students could be ogling a friend’s latest 3-D printer masterpiece. A grandfather could be machine-carving a nameplate for his family. To celebrate and enhance the makerspace’s devotion to creativity and invention, the Idea Studio is offering a summer residency program.

Open to amateur and professionals 18 and older, the two-month program will give one creative person the space to make and share their art. The stipend of $750 will reward the resident for time in the studio demonstrating their work and teaching two public programs during the residency period, roughly June 19 to August 19. As well, the resident will receive up to $500 in reimbursed expenses for materials. The resident will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in the Langdon Divers Community Gallery in October.

Artists, makers, musicians, technologists, artisans and inventors are invited to visit www.fdlpl.org/residency to view the guidelines and access the online application. Deadline to apply is April 14, 2017; the resident will be named by May 8. Questions on the program should be addressed to [email protected].

“We think it will be inspiring to be able to interact with a creative person in real time, during their process,” said library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse. “We’ll be looking for someone who has a passion for what they create and who has an interest in sharing that passion in a constructive way.”

The residency program is funded by the Seefeld Endowment Fund, which was started in 1992 to support special library programs and initiatives.

The Idea Studio is the library’s permanent do-it-yourself zone in the lower level with equipment to use for free and DIY programming. It’s open 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. More information is available at www.fdlpl.org/ideastudio and on the studio’s Facebook and Instagram pages, found at Idea Studio FDLPL.
