Learn to make tortillas Apr 18

Imagine a feast of Mexican foods without tortillas. You can’t, and why should you? Learn how to make fresh, warm, homemade tortillas at the 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, Breads of the World demonstration class at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The class is free and open to adults and teens aged 13 and older. Space is limited. Online-only registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the Calendar.

Pedro Arellano of Fond du Lac will demonstrate each step and share recipes he learned from his mother. Arellano is a passionate foodie who enjoys sharing his knowledge.

“I love all things kitchen-related,” Arellano said. “I grind my own whole grains at home and bake well over 100 pounds of flour a year. I make my own cheese. I cure and smoke my own bacon from scratch. My wife and I enjoy canning, dehydrating and I'm even crazy enough to roast my own coffee.”

Breads of the World in the Idea Studio demonstration kitchen features a different country’s bread every third Tuesday of the month taught by professional and amateur cooks from around the area. Anyone interested in teaching a favorite ethnic bread should contact Terri Fleming at [email protected] or (920) 322-3951.
