Idea Studio invites fridge poets

Celebrating April as National Poetry Month and April 9-15 as National Library Week, the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio has installed a new community art project: Fridge Magnet Poetry. Three refrigerator doors are installed along the wall opposite the makerspace’s entrance. Everyone is invited to stop, make a poem out of fridge magnet words and post a photo of their poem to #ideafridge on social media.

The idea came to Idea Studio staff as a fun way to engage visitors. But it wasn’t until Silica For Your Home of Fond du Lac got involved that the project became a reality. Silica’s Dennis Schneider selected doors from three used refrigerators, stripped all insides and donated the shells to the library. Library staff installed the doors, and the poetry sharing began on April 10.

The library intends the leave the fridge poetry up through summer. They’re accessible any time the library is open.
