QPR suicide prevention training Sep 27

A licensed clinical social worker and local nurse practitioner will offer parents and guardians training in the innovative Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) approach to suicide prevention at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required.

They will share common causes of suicidal behavior, how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to question, persuade and refer someone to get them the help they need. The interactive program will also include case studies and plenty of time for questions.

Sharon Stoffel and Tamara Langhoff together bring nearly 50 years of experience working in mental health and overall wellness. Stoffel is currently a clinician with the Fond du Lac Area YScreen program with 30-plus years of experience in crisis counseling, outpatient therapy and clinical supervision. YScreen is an emotional-health screening program offered to all ninth grade students in Fond du Lac County. Langhoff earned her nurse practitioner degree from UW-Madison and recently joined the Treffert Center after working 18 years at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. The Treffert Center offers diagnosis and treatment of autism, behavior and communication disorders in children and adults.
