Your Next Read

You've just finished the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Worlds Collide, the final book in The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. Your first thought after you're done with the book is "That was awesome!" quickly followed by "Now what?" Trying to figure out what book to read next can be a challenge. Luckily, the library can help! The library has a number of tools that can help you find your next favorite read. These tools can all be found on the library's website under Readers Resources.

NoveList is a fantastic tool to which the library purchases a subscription. From this resource, you can receive recommendations in a number of ways. You can:

  • Search for books by age group and genre.
  • Find the title of a book you love and receive a list of similar books.
  • Use appeal factors to search. This tool is what makes NoveList different than other reader's advisory websites. Appeal factors allow you to select a book that fits a certain mood. For example, if you want a creepy book that features a courageous character, you can use the appeal terms to search for recommendations.

Literature Map is another great tool which is not only helpful but fun. Once you enter the author's name into the search box, it will bring up a visual representation (a tag cloud) showing your author in the middle of the cloud with other author's name appearing around it. The closer an author's name is to the center (where your author's name resides), the more similar that author is to the author you searched. If you select another author on the map, it will lead you to the map for the newly selected author.

Of course, if you still can't find a great book to read or want more recommendations, ask your librarian! If you would like to learn more about the resources the library has to offer, you can book a 30 minute session with a reference librarian. Call the library at (920) 322-3930 or email [email protected] to book your session.
