Explore oregano at May 15 Flavors of the World

Fond du Lac Public Library’s monthly Flavors of the World program will focus on the versatile herb oregano at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the Idea Studio. The program is free and open to adults and teens 13 and older. Registration is required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Calendar.

Passionate foodie Pedro Arellano will present the history, lore and use of oregano. Arellano enjoys sharing his knowledge; he taught two classes in the library’s Breads of the World series last year.

“I love all things kitchen-related,” Arellano said. “I grind my own whole grains at home and bake well over 100 pounds of flour a year. I make my own cheese. I cure and smoke my own bacon from scratch. My wife and I enjoy canning, dehydrating and I'm even crazy enough to roast my own coffee.”

Flavors of the World takes place every third Tuesday of the month in the library’s Idea Studio. Programs coming up:

  • June 19: Coriander/cilantro, presented by Anoush Cowles
  • July 17: Basil, presented by Kay Bastian
  • August 21: MSG, presented by Jon Mark Bolthouse

The Idea Studio is the library’s makerspace, a permanent do-it-yourself zone in the lower level with a demonstration kitchen, equipment to use for free and DIY programming. For more information, visit www.fdlpl.org/ideastudio.
