Idea Studio DIY programs in May

Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio is permanent do-it-yourself zone in the library’s lower level with equipment to use for free and DIY programming for adults and teens age 13 and older. The program lineup for May is:

  • Sewing Machine Pillowcase: 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, May 11. Receive training on the Idea Studio sewing machine and use it to make a three-color standard-size pillowcase. The program is free, but attendees are required to bring their own fabric, details of which are available at fdlpl.org, click Calendar, and in a handout available at the Idea Studio. Registration is required starting at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, at tje Calendar.
  • DIY T-shirt Transfer: 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16. Receive training on the Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter machine and use it to design a T-shirt transfer to take home. Supplies and instructions on using the transfer will be provided. Registration required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Calendar.
  • Serger Pillowcase: 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, May 18. Receive training on the Idea Studio serger and use it to make a three-color standard-size pillowcase. The program is free, but attendees are required to bring their own fabric, details of which are available at fdlpl.org, click Calendar, and in a handout available at the Idea Studio. Registration is required starting at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the Calendar.
  • Intro to Linocut Carving & Printing: 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26. Receive training on the Idea Studio’s printmaking press then carve and print a linoleum block. For ages 18 and up. Registration is required starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Calendar.
  • littleBits Exploration Night: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30. Drop in for a casual evening exploring littleBits, the easy-to-use electronic building blocks that snap together to create all kinds of inventions – keyboards, flashing lights, buzzers and more. No soldering or knowledge of electronics or programming needed. All ages invited; an adult must accompany children under 13. No registration.
  • 3-D Portraits, 2-part Class: 6 p.m. Thursdays May 31 and June 7. In this two-part class, receive training on the 3-D scanner and 3-D printer, learn to use an iPad-attached Structure 3-D sensor, take a portrait scan then 3-D print the image. Register in pairs or get paired in class. Space strictly limited. Registration for both classes is required starting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Calendar.

Idea Studio hours: Monday through Thursday 3-8 p.m.; Friday 3-6 p.m.; and every second and fourth Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
