"School's out for summer"  (Can you hear it?) I was never an Alice Cooper fan, but his song runs through my head at the beginning of every summer when the school year ends.  Of course I remember lots of playing outside, games of kick the can or red light green light, camping and campfires, and driving all day to my cousins house where there were lightning bugs in the backyard!  I also remember the many books we read each summer.  Most days "the gang" would get together and when we had run off some of our energy and it got too hot, we would climb the trees in the backyards with a book and read.  We didn't have an official summer reading program, but you do!

The summer reading program is open to everyone.  Use this link to sign up, or stop at a service desk and pick up a paper card to track your reading.  Help us reach our goal of 2 million minutes read by our community! Track every 30 minutes you read, or are read to, (counts for both reader and listener) and stop in at the library to receive a prize when you've filled the card. It's especially important for children to read and be read to on a regular basis, so parents and grandparents should be sure to sign them up too.  You don't have to check books out from the library to participate, but we have a huge selection that you can't beat!

We have many displays to make it easy to find some of the best. The first floor has displays of Celebrity book club picks, Chick Lit, Audiobooks (yes, they count as reading),  Pride month, and items that were recently returned by your neighbors. On the second floor we have displays featuring recent books that are no longer on the "new" bookshelves, craft books, tough topics, job hunting, staff picks, and Great Britain. Here's a sample of what's out today.
