The Fond du Lac Public Library’s east-side branch will celebrate the new year with a new location – but it won’t move far.

The Allen J. Buechel Branch, found in the Festival Foods plaza, will move from its current space on the far northwest corner of the plaza to a new storefront closer to the entrance of the grocery store.

The new storefront will be located between GNC and FreshFit Cafe, just a couple of doors down from Festival Foods. This means that library users will be able to pick up books, DVDs and more from the Buechel Branch while shopping at adjacent stores without having to find a new parking spot.

What do you need to know about the change?

When will the move occur?
  • Sunday, Dec. 31: The last day the current location will be open. Hours will be 11 am - 3 pm.
  • Late January: We will open the new location at 1137 E. Johnson St. The exact date is TBD.
  • February: A grand re-opening celebration will be held to welcome all into the new space.
Where should I pick up my holds or drop off books during the closure?
  • Returning materials: Any materials checked out will need to be dropped off at the Main Library at 32 Sheboygan St.
  • Book drop: The book drop for the Buechel Branch will not be available until the branch re-opens. A 24/7 book drop is available at the Main Library.
  • Holds: All holds placed will need to be picked up at the Main Library.
  • Additional details: Curbside service and the 24/7 book drop will remain available for everyone’s convenience at the Main Library downtown.
Why will I love the new Buechel Branch?
  • Improved location: The new storefront for the Allen J. Buechel Branch will be immediately adjacent to stores you already visit, such as Festival Foods, GNC and FreshFit Cafe.
  • Easy-to-access book drop: The new book drop will be in the foyer at the front of the building. This means it will be easy to find and sheltered from Wisconsin's weather.
  • Same great collection: The selection at the Buechel Branch will not change. We will continue to offer great to-go collection of materials with best-sellers and new releases. The branch also will continue to offer a sizable children’s corner, as well as a lifestyle collection that features popular materials including cooking, crafting, home repair and more.
  • Convenient spot to pick up holds: When placing a hold, you will continue to be able to select "Allen J. Buechel Branch" as the pick-up location. For community members living on the east side of the city or county, this provides a much simpler option for picking up holds.
How can I get updates during the transition?
