Children love books they pick out themselves. In an effort to get more books in the homes of local children, the fourth annual book drive by Family Connections, Inc., in partnership with Supporting Families Together Association, will benefit the hundreds of young readers participating in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s summer reading program.

The Once Upon a Book Drive is collecting new and gently used books for readers ages birth to 12. Books of all types are welcome, especially bilingual and infant/toddler books. Drop off books at the collection bin at the Main Library downtown. Those wanting to donate new books can purchase them through AmazonSmile, selecting Supporting Families Together Association as the charity, and ship the books directly to the library at 32 Sheboygan St., Fond du Lac WI 54935.

Summer Reading @ the Library provides rewards for time spent reading, or being read to. This year, children who complete the second of four reading cards will be able to pick out a book to take home. Previously, only children who completed all four cards earned a new book.

“When children realize they get to pick out their own book, their eyes light up,” said the library’s Youth Services Coordinator Sarah Newton. “Last year, there were more than 900 children who completed their second reading card. This book drive will help us immensely.”

The book drive will run through August.

Family Connections, Inc., is a member of the Supporting Families Together Association. It supports and educates families and early childhood professionals to promote healthy child development and strengthen communities.
