Patrons of the Fond du Lac Public Library should not be alarmed if they see materials they have returned not appear as “checked in” for several days after dropping it off.

In accordance with the latest guidance from scientists, the state and others, the Fond du Lac Public Library is quarantining all materials returned to the library for four days.

This will not affect patrons’ accounts negatively. Though they will appear to be still checked out on patrons’ accounts during this quarantine period, all materials will be back-dated to their original return date once the quarantine is complete. No fines will be charged while materials are in quarantine.

The new guidelines were based off testing done as part of the REALM Project, which tested library materials for presence of the COVID-19 virus. Scientific analysis found that trace amounts of the virus could still be detected after three days on some items, leading to the new recommendation of a four-day quarantine.

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s decision to adhere to this new guideline relates to its ongoing efforts to reduce its patrons and staff from exposure to the coronavirus. Other steps taken include the new requirement that all patrons and staff who enter the library must wear a mask. Social distancing continues to be encouraged between patrons as well as staff.

Patrons uncomfortable with these changes have a few options to continue to enjoy books and more from the Fond du Lac Public Library. 

Curbside pick-up of materials continues to be available by placing holds on materials at fdlpl.org, or calling 920-929-7080 option 2; once patrons arrive curbside, they should call 920-322-3920 and provide their information.
