Water and the city of Fond du Lac have been tied together since the city was founded, but it’s been an uneasy alliance amid a history of the Fond du Lac River surging above its banks.

Learn how Fond du Lac has been affected by rising waters during the August History at Home program: The Floods of Fond du Lac. This program will be held Thursday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. via Facebook Live at facebook.com/fdlpl.

Presented by Tracy Reinhardt of the Fond du Lac County Historical Society, the program will look back at various floods that struck Fond du Lac. The presentation will include historical images of several such floods, focusing on the Flood of 1924 that killed one person.

History at Home focuses on stories about the area's past every third Thursday of the month. The programs are free. Many History at Home programs are captured on video and shared on the library's YouTube channel. That link can be found at fdlpl.org/miss-program.
