Spanish-speaking individuals with limited English proficiency soon will be able to apply for a library card at the Fond du Lac Public Library more easily.

Starting in June, the Hispanic ministries coordinator from Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, Carmen Valenzuela, will be at the library on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to offer translation help to Spanish-speaking individuals who wish to receive library cards.

Obtaining a library card opens the door to many free materials and equipment at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Not only does the library have books, DVDs and other materials in both Spanish and English, a library card provides access to the library’s wide selection of equipment such as outdoor games, electronics and mobile hotspots. With a library card, users can also sign up for Libby, the Library’s free mobile app for downloading books, audiobooks and more, with titles available in both English and Spanish.

While the Library has offered a library card application in Spanish to accommodate individuals with limited English proficiency for some time, this new program aims to break down additional barriers to using the library while supporting literacy in the community. The effort is part of an ongoing plan  to ensure that everyone in the Fond du Lac community feels welcome at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
