Supercharge your child's mind with September youth events
Put your child on the right track as the new school year gets underway with great events at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Exciting art, STEAM and other activities are scheduled throughout the month.
During Crafty Kids on Tuesday, Sept. 13, youth ages 4+ can join the library at 4:30 p.m. in the McLane Room for crafting fun. In this new monthly program, library staff will bring back favorite take-home kits for youth to try out.
Early-elementary-aged children may join STEAM Night on Monday, Sept.19 at 4 p.m. in the Mid-States Room. This new, monthly program will offer a new activity each time that will allow youth to explore science, technology, engineering, art or math, as well as a few regular activities such as Legos.
Preschoolers also can work on their Kindergarten Readiness on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mid-States Room. Practice essential skills during this new monthly program.
Meanwhile, families who homeschool their children also can join Homeschool Meetup on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the McLane Room to connect with other homeschool families while discovering how the Fond du Lac Public Library can support their efforts.
Several take-home kits also will be available in September. They include:
- Latine & Hispanic Heritage Month Kit: Register from Sept. 4 to 10 for this kit that includes a traditional game & craft geared for youth age 5+. Those who register will be able to pick their kit up between Sept. 18 to 24 during the library’s regular hours.
- Full STEAM Ahead: Flex your science, technology, engineering, art, and/or math skills with a take-home, hands-on activity. A back-to-school craft kit will be available for pickup in the Teen Area starting Tuesday, Sept. 20, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
- Teen Book Bags: Teens also may register for the monthly Book with a Snack: Teen Book Bags. Register from Sept. 4 to 10 to pick up the book boxes between Sept. 18 to 24. September’s theme will be “You’ve Got a Friend.”
Other programming planned for September includes:
- Storytime returns: A family favorite, Storytime, returns to the Fond du Lac Public Library on Sept. 12. Baby Storytime will be held on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. for ages 0-12 months; Toddler Storytime for ages 1-2 will be held Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.; and Preschool Storytime will be held for ages 3-5 on Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.
- Hamilton Park Storywalk Scavenger Hunt: From Sept. 1 to 18, stop by the Children’s Room at the Main Library to pick up a scavenger hunt sheet. When completed, bring your answer sheet to the Children’s Desk by the end of the month for a prize.
- Scary Story Contest (for teens): Writers - show off your chill-and-thrill skills during the Scary Story Contest, which will run from Sept. 11 to Oct. 22.
- Anime Afternoon (for teens): Anime enthusiasts should join the library on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the McLane Room to watch a couple of episodes of anime staff will choose … and enjoy some snacks. Cosplay is welcome.
