Get a double dose of History at Home during March
Love local history? Join the Fond du Lac Public Library in March for two History at Home programs: one on March 9 celebrating Women’s History Month, and another on March 29 that is being rescheduled from February due to inclement weather.
First, hear about Carrie Chapman Catt, a leader in the women's suffrage movement, who was born in Ripon, Wisconsin, on Thursday, March 9 at 6 p.m. in the McLane Room.
Presenter Ellen Sorensen will discuss how this sometimes controversial figure continues to influence, even a century later.
This event is co-sponsored by Soroptimist International of Fond du Lac during Women's History Month.
Then on Wednesday, March 29 at 6 p.m. in the McLane Room, a second History at Home program will be presented.
Today, the Wade House Historic Site located off Highway 23 east of Fond du Lac is one of several Wisconsin Historic Sites operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society.
In the 1800s, though, it was known as a resting place owned by Sylvanus and Betsey Wade located midway between Fond du Lac and Sheboygan. But there is much more to the story of the Wade family than the Wade House.
Join Jim Willaert, guest experience coordinator and curator at Wade House Historic Site, to explore the story of the Wade family and their impact on Wisconsin.
History at Home programs focus on stories about the area's past every month. Programs are held on the second Thursday of every month at 6 pm in the McLane Room. The programs are free; no registration is necessary to attend. Those who are unable to attend in person may watch live via Facebook at facebook.com/FDLPL. Many History at Home programs also are captured on video and shared on the library's YouTube channel.
