Appleton painter Cristian Andersson will exhibit his works in “Static Soundscapes” March 4-31 in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery. The public is invited to a reception 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the gallery. Refreshments will be served.

Andersson said his abstract works are “visual representations of acoustic environments.”

“The way I listen to music is often not concerned with melody or lyrics,” he said. “Instead, I listen for the textures that musicians can pull out of their instruments and envision the nuances of these sounds in the form of patterns, assigned color, line and shape. These forms are placed representationally into the pictorial composition to reflect the way the composer uses the instrumentation in the soundscape. The forms come forward or recede visually in the same manner that the sounds do in the musical composition.”

Andersson said he has two main paths in his artwork: abstract paintings based on classical compositions, and paintings, installations and performance work focused on societal concerns. He teaches contemporary art in Appleton and Oshkosh, working with people living with memory loss.

The Langdon Divers Gallery is curated by volunteer and local artist Kolstad, who can be contacted at mel@kolstad.net. For more information, visit the gallery’s Facebook page at facebook.com/langdondivers.
