Do you have an exotic pet you can no longer care for?

If so, bring your pet or pets to the Exotic Pet Surrender Event on Sunday, Feb. 19 from noon until 3:30 p.m. at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) will accept fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and plants — no questions asked.

A presentation on invasive species also will be held from 12 to 12:30 p.m. Animal ambassadors will be on hand to meet and learn from, and a photobooth will be available where you can take your picture with a rescued pet.

In some areas, there are no rehoming options for exotic animals such as fish, birds, and reptiles. Some pet owners that are unable to care for their pet may think that releasing the animal is the right thing to do; however, releasing a pet is harmful for the animal and the environment.

JRAAR will host the event with help from several other area organizations including Fox Wolf Watershed Alliance, Winnebago Waterways, and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes.

This program is possible due to sponsors Animart and Festival Foods.
