Fond du Lac Public Library’s monthly Flavors of the World program will focus on coriander and cilantro at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the Idea Studio. The program is free and open to adults and teens 13 and older. Registration is required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at fdlpl.org, click Calendar.

The demonstration will be led by Anoush Cowles, a local art teacher and home cook, who will demonstrate recipes that use both coriander and cilantro.

Coriander and cilantro are from the same plant. In the United States, the herb we call coriander is the seed of the plant; the stems and leaves are cilantro. The ancient herb is used in cuisines around the globe, including Indian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Caribbean, Mediterranean, North African and Eastern European.

Flavors of the World takes place every third Tuesday of the month in the library’s Idea Studio. Programs coming up:

  • Jul 17: Basil, presented by Kay Bastian
  • Aug 21: MSG, presented by Jon Mark Bolthouse
  • Sep 18: Mustard, presented by Barry Levenson of The Mustard Museum

The Idea Studio is the library’s makerspace, a permanent do-it-yourself zone in the lower level with a demonstration kitchen, equipment to use for free and DIY programming. For more information, visit www.fdlpl.org/ideastudio.
