Exciting activities, amazing prizes, and great books: It’s time to jump into Summer Reading at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Starting June 1, the Fond du Lac Public Library invites users of all ages to “Find Your Voice!,” the theme of Summer Reading @ FDLPL 2023.

All summer, the library will offer plenty to enjoy, including four Wonder Wednesday performances for youth during June.

Activities for all ages will be held throughout the program, often encouraging participants to express themselves in their special way, whether it’s journaling or creating art or even just singing along to a beloved movie.

Adults can flex their love of art with crafty activities all summer. Join Bad Art Night (June 5, July 17, & Aug. 7) to make whimsical and fun creations. Or, register for Evening Craft Class (June 12, July 10, Aug. 14) for cute, decorative items for your home. In Good-Natured Crafts (June 20, July 25, Aug. 22), create all-natural crafts you will appreciate. Other Summer Reading-themed activities include a virtual visit from authors Jerry Apps and Natasha Kassulke for Finding Your Voice With Facts (June 22), an opportunity to become more confident in speaking and singing (July 18), and a crash course in bullet journaling (Aug. 1).

Kids, meanwhile, have tons of activities to join to keep them from getting bored. Wonder Wednesday programs include a chance to be amazed by Deaf performers Magic Morgan and Liliana (June 7), the incredible Circus Science Spectacular (June 14), a visit by the Wild Birds of Prey from Marsh Haven Nature Center (June 21), and a special visit by Yo-Yo Master Mark Hayward (June 28). These events will be available by ticket only; tickets may be picked up starting the Friday before the event at the Children’s Desk at the Main Library.

Other highlights include a bookmark contest for all ages (June 1-Aug. 13), a writer’s workshop for youth and teens ages 8+ (June 6 & 20, July 6 & 20) a Little Mermaid-themed Escape Room for school-age children (June 8, 9 & 10), an art camp (July 5, 12, 19 & 26), a sing-along movie series (July 7, 14, & 28), a Wednesday Addams-themed escape room for teens (July 13-14), Touch-A-Truck (July 25), and more. Storytimes also return June 12 with Baby Storytime on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., Toddler Storytime on Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., and Preschool Storytime Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, through Aug. 13, kids, teens, and adults may read their favorite books to earn prizes. Returning in 2023 is an online logging option: users can hop on the Fond du Lac Public Library’s online portal, Beanstack, to record their minutes of reading. A link to Beanstack is available at fdlpl.org/summer2023. Participation is easy, and earns readers instant rewards along the way as well as a chance at a grand prize at the end of the summer. All reading counts, and reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener. Instant prizes for adults include the popular Faris Popcorn.
