Lester E. Dyer was born in Fond du Lac County but died and was buried on Iwo Jima while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Today, he is finally home in America thanks to the work being done to bring soldiers home.

Learn more about this effort from Wayne King during History at Home on Thursday, May 9 at 6 p.m. in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s McLane Room.
King’s talk, “Bringing Heroes Home,” will center around the establishment of the U.S. Army Graves Registration Program and its evolution from the Civil War to present-day operations conducted by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.

“I have stories of service members from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars to present,” King said.

Hear about this project either in person on May 9 or watch from home via the library’s Facebook page at facebook.com/FDLPL. No registration required to view the program.
