The Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio makerspace offers programs for adults and teens age 13 and older that help users make creative use of the free equipment on site. Along with the programs below, staff routinely holds badging sessions to qualify users on the Idea Studio equipment, which includes 3-D printers, CNC cutters, a recording studio and more. All program details can be found at the Calendar. The DIY programs for November:

  • Ukulele Club: 1 p.m. Saturday, November 3. Informal, fun get-together for uke players of all ages and skills to learn songs, practice and share. Players are encouraged to bring their own instruments. There will be a limited number of ukes available to borrow during the meeting. Free; no registration required.
  • DIY Hand Warmers: 6 p.m. Monday, November 19 (with sewing machine) and 6 p.m. Monday, November 26 (with serger).  Receive training on the sewing machine or serger and use them to make two microwaveable, rice-filled hand warmers. Sewers must provide their own fabric and notions; details at the Calendar. Separate registration for each class begins at 9:30 a.m. two weeks in advance at the Calendar.
  • Glass Etching: 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 21. Must be 18 or older. Learn the Silhouette cutter and use it to acid-etch a glass or ceramic item you bring from home. Items must be high-gloss, clean and fingerprint-free. Flat or cylindrical items work best; oven-safe glass (such as Pyrex) will not work. For more information, go to the Calendar. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 7.
  • Laser Monogram Class: 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 28. Get trained on the laser cutter and use it to etch a monogram or other small design into a wood or bamboo cutting board you bring from home. The item must be no larger than 15 inches by 22 inches. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, at the Calendar.
