Meet a local author & therapy dog proponent at Chapter 52 in October
Readers have an opportunity to meet a local author on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Chapter 52 Bookstore, located at 52 Sheboygan St.
Author Gail Scoates will be at the store from 10 a.m. to noon to meet with visitors and sign copies of her newest book, “Paws, Purpose and Possibilities: How therapy dogs and faith healed my heart.”
The author and her sister dreamed of growing old together, but life had other ideas. At the age of 41, Gail's sister, Karen, was swept out of their lives by cancer.
“Paws, Purpose and Possibilities” is a story of their life together and ultimately apart. It's a story of how the author found meaning in her suffering and death, and in her grief by working with therapy dogs for nearly 25 years.
"The wonderful world of therapy dogs opened my life and my heart in ways I could never have imagined. The people I walked with to learn this craft as well as those I walked alongside fills me with gratitude for God’s goodness and grace," Scoats said.
The author is a retired registered nurse who resides in Fond du Lac with David, her husband of nearly 44 years, and Sadie, her third golden retriever and therapy dog.
Chapter 52 Bookstore is open Monday through Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Operated by the Fond du Lac Public Library, the bookstore sells used books, movies, music and magazines for all ages at deep discounts.
