My Hometown local history project meets Nov 14
Historians Dr. Rick Whaley and Herman Bender invite the public to learn about their grassroots, community-based historical research project, My Hometown, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Free. No registration.
At the November meeting, Bender said work will shift focus from research to implementation – how their work can be used in the community. They’ll explore creating walking tour brochures, how the downtown and Prohibition history can benefit the Hotel Retlaw renovation, the use of technology to tell building and business history and the idea of establishing a Fond du Lac area museum as a downtown anchor.
Anyone interested in local history is invited.
Whaley retired in 2015 after 43 years of teaching, with the last 22 years in Marian University’s History Dept., where he taught American history, geography and American government.
Bender is an independent researcher, writer, editor, geologist and historian whose work has been published in the fields of history, cultural landscapes and Native American studies.
