Interest in gaming is booming, but the cost to purchase games can be prohibitive. Many popular video games and board games cost $40 to $100 per title, placing them out of reach for many individuals.

Gamers now have a free alternative at the Fond du Lac Public Library. A video game collection featuring titles for Xbox, PS4 and Nintendo Switch was introduced this week; a board game collection will soon be available as well.

Video games include popular sports such as NHL 23 and NBA 2K23, iconic franchises such as the Mario series, and exciting fantasy titles on each platform. The collection is available on a display adjacent to the Teen Area and Help Desk at FDLPL’s Main Library.

The board game collection, meanwhile, will include favorites such as Battleship and Pictionary, popular strategy games such as Catan and Ticket to Ride, and many other titles for board game enthusiasts to explore. Board games will be located between the Teen Area and the circulation desk at the Main Library.

Library patrons may check out any combination of three board games and video games at a time.

Prefer something slower paced? The Fond du Lac Public Library continues to offer a free puzzle exchange. Anyone may drop off a puzzle they’ve already completed, or pick up a new puzzle to try with no checkout necessary. Puzzles are located between FDLPL’s magazine and newspaper collections.
