Former Idea Studio staff member Michaela Null has been named the Fond du Lac Public Library’s virtual artist in residence for August.

Null’s paid residency will take place on a Facebook group through which people can interact, see her work, attend workshops and learn about other makers and artists. Sign-up for the group is through facebook.com/ideastudioFDLPL.

Null is a makerspace professional, artist and educator. She has a Ph.D. in Sociology and Women’s Studies. A former professor, she left academia to pursue a career that utilized both her love of teaching and her love of creativity – library makerspaces. She worked at Idea Studio from 2016-2018, and has since gained experience teaching in and helping to create two other library makerspaces. In 2015, she completed a weekend residency at the Queer Zine Archive Project in Milwaukee.

Null likes to follow her curiosity and dabble in different kinds of making. She enjoys visual textures, repurposing materials and using unconventional applications. From acrylic LED signs to zines to sculptures to digital art and self portraits, she dabbles away using whatever tools are at her disposal. You can find out more about Michaela at her website www.michaelanull.com.

The Idea Studio’s summer residency program is in its fourth year. More information about the program can be found at fdlpl.org/residency.
