What can you create in the Idea Studio at the Fond du Lac Public Library? During October, it’s scary how many projects are planned.

Extra Badge & Make classes (formerly known as Let’s Make classes) have been scheduled, helping people learn how to make everything from heat-transfer vinyl Trick or Treat Bags, to 3-D Printed Halloween Charms, to Laser-Engraved Halloween Coasters. And, starting this month, one event will be just for teens.

Badge & Make events fill up fast, so visit calendar.fdlpl.org two weeks before each event when registration opens. Upcoming events include:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.: Create 3-D printed Halloween charms using the Idea Studio’s Prusa printers after getting badged on them. The library will provide chain links and other jewelry accessories.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m.: Teens will be trained on how to use the sublimation equipment. Then, they can design a mug to sublimate and bring home for free. This class is strictly for youth ages 13 to 18.
  • Monday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.: Participants will learn how to use the Silhouette Cameo 4 to create their own heat transfer vinyl, then adhere them to a Trick or Treat tote bag.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m.: Create sublimated bookmarks by learning how to use the library’s sublimation printer and heat press. Get a free bookmark to take home.
  • Monday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.: Take the required training to get badged for using the sublimation printer and heat press, then make a keychain to bring home for free.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m.: Learn how to use the Idea Studio’s Glowforge Pro Laser to engrave a Halloween design on a slate coaster.

The public also is invited to join the October meeting of the Press Club (for printmakers) on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. Drop in to see informal demonstrations on Eraser Relief Printing, and try it out for free. No registration required.

Most programs are open to anyone but youth under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Other badging opportunities also exist for Idea Studio equipment; check calendar.fdlpl.org for times and availability.

The Idea Studio is open for walk-in visits Monday through Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
