The Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio makerspace offers programs for adults and teens age 13 and older that help users make creative use of the free equipment on site. Registration is required and begins two weeks before the program at, click Calendar.

The program lineup for September:

  • Ukulele Club: 1 p.m. Saturday, September 1. Informal, fun get-together for uke players of all ages and skills to learn songs, practice and share. Players are encouraged to bring their own instruments. There will be a limited number of ukes available to borrow during the meeting. Free; no registration required.
  • Drawstring Backpack, 2-part class: 6 p.m. Wednesdays, September 5 and September 12. Receive training on the serger and sewing machines, and use them to make a handy drawstring backpack. Attendees must provide their own fabric and notions. Information on supplies is listed at the Calendar, where registration for both classes begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 22.
  • Glass Etching: 6 p.m. Monday, September 17. Must be 18 or older. Learn the Silhouette cutter and use it to acid-etch a glass or ceramic item you bring from home. Items must be high-gloss, clean and fingerprint-free. Flat or cylindrical items work best; oven-safe glass (such as Pyrex) will not work. For more information, go to the Calendar.   • TinkerCAD Class: 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 19. Learn how to use TinkerCAD, a free web-based 3-D computer-aided design application, and use it on the Idea Studio 3-D printers. No prerequisites are required, but users must have received training on the Idea Studio’s 3-D printers to print their designs. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, at the Calendar.
  • Laser Monogram Class: 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 26. Get trained on the laser cutter and use it to etch a monogram or other small design into a wood or bamboo cutting board you bring from home. The item must be no larger than 15 inches by 22 inches. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, at the Calendar.
