Summer may be moving by quickly but the Idea Studio at the Fond du Lac Public Library still offers plenty to do and create. From tote bags to car coasters, discover what you can personalize with Idea Studio equipment.

Let’s Make events scheduled for August include:

  • On Monday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m., earn a badge for use of the Idea Studio’s Sublimation Printer and Heat Press, plus make a sublimated car cup coaster. For ages 13+. Register now at calendar.fdlpl.org.
  • Or, on Monday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m., learn how to use the Janome sewing machine to sew a nine patch quilt block. Bring your own fabric or use fabric provided. For ages 13+. Register starting July 29 at calendar.fdlpl.org.
  • Then, on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m., get badged on the Silhouette Cameo 4 to create a design that will be cut out and ironed onto a tote bag provided by the library. For  ages 13+. Register starting Aug. 12 at calendar.fdlpl.org.

Want to help create sustainable bags for Fond du Lac? Join the Boomerang Bags event Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. for a monthly meetup. Participants will talk about connecting communities, making reusable bags, diverting waste, and fostering sustainable behavior while making reusable bags and having a bit of fun. This event is for teens and adults; register now at calendar.fdlpl.org.

The August meeting of the Press Club, meanwhile, will focus on cardboard collographs. Join Idea Studio staff on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. to learn more about creating essentially a collage of materials of various textures glued on to a printing plate, often a thin wood or cardboard. The plate is inked up, usually by hand, and then printed on to paper either manually or via a press.

This is a free event with no experience or registration necessary for participants ages 13+; younger children are allowed with a parent or caregiver present when the Press Club meets.

The Idea Studio is open for walk-in visits Monday through Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
