Summer kicks off in a big way at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio makerspace. Along with extended summer hours and a lively program calendar, visitors will be able to meet Stephanie Harvey, the studio’s new maker in residence, as she starts her office hours and program schedule. The Idea Studio is permanent do-it-yourself zone in the library’s lower level with equipment to use for free and DIY programming for adults and teens age 13 and older.

The program lineup for June:

Infinity Scarf/Sewing Machine: 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 13. Use the sewing machine and a rectangular scarf from home to create a versatile infinity scarf. Registration required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30.

Infinity Scarf/Serger: 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 20. Use the serger and a rectangular scarf from home to create an infinity scarf. Registration is required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6.

Pumped for Printmaking: 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 25. Maker in Residence Stephanie Harvey will lead a workshop on the fascinating art of printmaking, showing samples and covering its origins and history. Attendees will carve and print original art and receive a handout to continue printmaking at home. Registration is required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 11.

Maker in residence office hours: 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. Harvey will be on hand in the Idea Studio to meet visitors while working on her art, which will include stenciling, relief printing, embroidery and watercolor painting. She’ll be in the studio again on Wednesdays July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22. Just drop in; no registration required.

DIY T-shirt Transfer: 4 p.m. Friday, June 29. Receive training on the Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter machine and use it to design a T-shirt transfer to take home. Supplies and instructions on using the transfer will be provided. Registration required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, at fdlpl.org, click Calendar.

Makeathon! 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30. Summer’s Saturday hours are extended to entice makers, hackers, doers, shakers of all disciplines to gather and create. Free; no registration required. Children under age 13 are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Light refreshments will be provided.
