Sign-up is underway for the sixth annual Scrabble Bee on Tuesday, October 9, at Thelma Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan St., Fond du Lac.

It’s Scrabble, with a twist. Teams of up to four players will work together in two rounds – one 20 minute, and one 15 minute – using standard Scrabble boards and rules. The twist comes during round two, when each team will have 10 tiles taken away at random. Teams can buy back tiles of their choosing.

The event will include free sub sandwiches, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Registration and subs start at 5 p.m., and play gets underway at 6 p.m. The cost is $60 per team. Team sign-up is taking place now, online at fdlpl.org/fdlliteracy or by calling (920) 322-3932.

The Scrabble Bee is sponsored by Agnesian HealthCare, Eden Stone, FDL Evening Optimist Club, J.F. Ahern, Kiwanis Club of Fabulous Fond du Lac, Kwik Trip, Mercury Marine, National Exchange Bank & Trust, Nielsen Charity Committee, Schenck, Society Insurance, TTI Inc. Trucking, Van Horn Automotive Group and YMCA FDL. The event is a fundraiser for Fond du Lac Literacy Services, a United Way agency and nonprofit organization headquartered on the second floor of the Fond du Lac Public Library downtown. It offers free one-on-one tutoring for adults who need help with reading, writing, math and English. For more information, visit www.fdlpl.org/literacy.
