Fond du Lac County Register of Deeds Jim Krebs will explain how his office plays a crucial and largely hidden role in the smooth workings of everyday life at the 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, Community Chat program at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required.

Krebs will explain how the Register of Deeds office maintains the county’s land record documents, including deeds, mortgages, easements and plats. The office also maintains and issues copies of birth, death, marriage, divorce and domestic partnership records. Krebs will explain the best way people can access these public records.

Krebs was elected register of deeds in November 2016. Before that, he was deputy register of deeds for three years and worked in the title insurance field as a title examiner, researching and reviewing real estate documents. Krebs also has worked as a campaign finance analyst at the Federal Election Commission in Washington, D.C., where he reviewed campaign finance reports from political action committees.

Community Chat programs give residents opportunities to hear directly from local government and nonprofit organizations. Representatives share information about costs, goals, accomplishments and more.

The Fond du Lac Public Library supports a high quality of life in Fond du Lac through reading, lifelong learning and community involvement.
