After careful judging of several dozen entries received in the Fond du Lac Public Library's adult poetry contest, three poems rose to the top.

Winners of this year's contest include:

  • Haiku: Kathryn Juroff
  • Verse: G.A. Scheinoha
  • Other: Linda Uselmann

Each of these winners received a prize package that they could enjoy while reading their favorite poetry.

With the authors' permission, here are their winning poems:

Winner of Haiku category, by Kathryn Juroff

This small pirate's hand
Grimy with treasures and worms
Sleepily clasps mine

Winner of Verse category, by G.A. Scheinoha

 "Inkless"

When the nib
runs dry,
words
come
to an
end.
How
swiftly
they die--
if unwritten
by the pen.

Winner of "Other" category, by Linda Uselmann

Howl ~~
It makes one
Take a breath
Others can’t
Stand on someone’s shoulders
To see power
And privilege
It is fortune
We know
To just notice
Others
And encourage
Waking
Experience
