Winners sting opponents at 7th annual Scrabble Bee
Fond du Lac Literacy Services’ seventh annual Scrabble Bee, held October 8 at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, attracted a swarm of great spellers.
Dominating the challenging Yellow Jacket Division was the unstoppable team Nauti Words, which consisted of Chris Carew, Tom Flader, Carol Meister and Philip Shepherd. Nauti Words has taken home the top prize for several years. Coming in second in the Yellow Jacket Division was team Cheezy Bees from Grande Cheese: Gretchen Porter, Lori Wasmund, Robyn Guelig and Kim Quinn.
Winning the Stingless Bees Division (the just-for-fun category) was Team NEBAT from National Exchange Bank & Trust: Gloria Stenz, Renee Breister, Lucas Cooper and Nicole Wiese.
Coming in second place was Three Girls and a Guy: Holly Shea, Alayne Stelsel, Rachel Hellsell and Anthony Hellsell.
The fundraiser hosted 11 teams playing Scrabble (with a few twists). Triple Word-level sponsors were FDL Morning Rotary, Eden Stone, TTI, BCI Burke, JF Ahern, Society Insurance, Kiwanis of Fabulous Fond du Lac, Kwik Trip, Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, Mercury Marine and National Exchange Bank and Trust.
