Winners sting opponents at Scrabble Bee
Fond du Lac Literacy Services’ sixth annual Scrabble Bee, held October 9 at Thelma Center for the Arts, attracted a swarm of great spellers. Dominating the challenging Yellow Jacket Division was the returning champs team of Nauti Words, which consisted of Chris Carew, Tom Flader, Carol Meister and Philip Shepherd. Coming in second in the Yellow Jacket Division was team Fab 4: Judy Urben, Donna Freund, Laura Pierret and Margot Hernandez.
Winning the Stingless Bees Division (the just-for-fun category) was the team Cheezy Bees:
Robyn Guelig, Crystal Schimmels, Kim Quinn and Lori Wasmund. Coming in second place was the National Exchange Bank team, comprised of Lucas Cooper, Jenni Riedeman, Renee Breister and Gloria Stenz.
The fundraiser hosted 11 teams playing Scrabble (with a few twists). Triple Word-level sponsors were Eden Stone, Mercury Marine, Nielsen Charity Committee, Schenck, Society Insurance, National Exchange Bank and Trust, Agnesian HealthCare, Fond du Lac YMCA, J.F. Ahern, Van Horn Automotive Group, TTI Trucking, FDL Evening Optimist Club, Kwik Trip and Kiwanis Club of Fabulous FDL.
