Design Lab at the Idea Studio

STEAM Educators & Community Partners

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts
The Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts was the first community collaborator for Design Lab. They held collaborative sessions in the art center to teach our students socio-emotional skills and new mediums of making art. The culminating project was an art exhibit held at Thelma featuring art made by Design Lab Students.

What is the time commiment?

In short roughly 4 hours per workshop, plus planning time. Workshops are 3 hours long and would require some set up and clean up. Each workshop will start with 20 minutes of community building, will include a break, and will end with 20 minutes of reflection. You would need to plan for 2 hours of content.

What size are the classes?

We are trying to limit class sizes to under 20 students at a time.

What support will I receive?

Our Curriculum Specialist will work with you to make sure your workshop has clear learning goals, incorporates the design thinking process, and incorpoates 21st century skills in a way that is appealing to our students. Additionally you will have at least one paraprofessional Pre-Service Teacher in your classroom at all time with a professional staff on site as well.

How do I get paid?

After workshops are done you will submit an invoice for planning time and workshops. Invoices submitted will have a check made out on the Friday of the following business week and then mailed out. If you haven’t created an invoice for your services before, an example can be found here

We would also need a W9 form submitted. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf

What do you need from me?

We would request a Design Brief / Workshop Proposal be submitted to make sure that what you want to do with our students aligns with their challenge question.
