How well do you know Fond du Lac? Do you know who the first Indigenous settlers were, which industries helped shape the community, or who the first patient was at what was then known as St. Agnes Sanitarium?
These slices of Fond du Lac history and many more are shared in a new history book all about the community at the foot of Lake Winnebago.
Titled “Life by the Lake: Stories of Fond du Lac,” this new book is now available at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
Guests who bring their Fond du Lac Public Library card will receive a free copy of the book at either the Main Library or the Allen J. Buechel Branch.
The book represents the culmination of many months of work as the Fond du Lac Public Library sought to publish an updated history of the community.
Written by Daphne Lemke and researched by Tracy Reinhardt, “Life by the Lake” is an expansion and update of Cindy Barden’s 1998 book “Foot of the Lake,” which also was published by the Fond du Lac Public Library Board of Trustees.
“Life by the Lake” offers new details and perspectives, including stories never told before as well as information about life in Fond du Lac over the past three decades.
All community members are invited to pick up a copy of the book that celebrates the history of the community.
The book is not available digitally at this time.
