Kids

Welcome to Storytimes!

The Youth Services staff is happy to present weekly storytimes for kids ages 0-5. Storytimes are free, fun, and for everyone! We recommend starting with the Storytime listed for your child’s age, but you are welcome to try others to find the best fit. Our summer 2025 Storytime sessions run from June 9 to July 29.

Also try Playtime at the Library!

When our storytimes are on a break, come enjoy a relaxed morning of play with your friends in the Discovery Room! Each week, we’ll be joined by a local expert in child development. They’ll be there to answer questions you may have. A variety of sensory and learning toys will be provided by the library. Playtime at the Library is scheduled for Mondays, May 5 to June 2, and Mondays, Aug. 4-25.

The following Storytimes will be offered:

  • Family Storytime (ages 2-5) – Mondays & Tuesdays at 9:30 am in the Discovery Room: Join us for stories, songs, rhymes and more designed to develop early literacy skills and encourage a love of reading.
  • Babies and Books (up to 18 months) – Mondays at 11 am in the Discovery Room: Intended for children up to 18 months and caregivers, we’ll sing songs & rhymes, explore books, and have a relaxing playtime with an opportunity for babies and caregivers to connect.

Both are a great way for your child to interact with other young children while building crucial early literacy skills and providing you (the caregiver) with the tools to bring these practices into your home.

Tips for the best Storytime experience:

Talk about Storytime with your child before attending. This can help reduce stress and anxiety by preparing them for the basics of storytime. Talk about things like the group setting, listening, and paying attention.

Arrive on time and attend every week. This will ensure you and your child are ready to enjoy Storytime. The more you attend, the more comfortable you and your child will become, while the repetition of certain activities will help build your child’s brain.

When we say Storytime is for everyone, we mean you, too! Your child will get the most out of Storytime if you model good behavior, avoid distractions (like cell phones and conversations with other caregivers), and participate along with them. Yes, you may feel (and even look silly), but your child is taking their cues from you, so make sure to sing and dance along!

Remember, our Youth Services staff is always available as a resource to you, so if you have any questions or concerns, or just need a good book recommendation, we are happy to assist.

We can’t wait to see you at Storytime!
