Thank you for considering Fond du Lac Literacy Services as a place to volunteer your time and talents or to learn and improve your literacy skills. Our volunteers and students are an important part of our organization and help us fulfill our mission.
We look forward to hearing from you and learning more about your interest in becoming part of our literacy community.
For Volunteers: Tutoring is our greatest area of need. We provide training, resources, and ongoing support to help you feel confident and prepared to work with our students.
For Students: We offer free literacy and English language learning opportunities for adults. Please complete this form to let us know you are interested, and we will contact you with more information about available classes and tutoring.
One-on-one tutor
Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adult learners to meet their learning goals. This is a 1-2 hour per week commitment. Most meetings are held at the FDL Public Library. We will train you and provide all material. Tutors are matched with learners who have the same availability so we will work with your schedule!
Classroom Assistant (Coming Soon)
Classes are held at a local stone quarry on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 pm. Volunteers will assist the main teacher by helping students stay on task, answering questions, and working in small groups.
English Conversation Group (Coming Soon)
English Conversation Groups are drop-in meetings for any English Language learner to attend. This is an opportunity to practice speaking English, learn more about the language, and understand our culture and community.
English conversation groups are held Tuesdays from 6-7 pm and Thursdays from 1-2 pm. These meetings are currently being held virtually via Zoom.
We are looking for a lead to facilitate this group as well as assistants to help out.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Event Volunteer
Volunteers are vital to making fundraising events successful. These events are fun, and the tasks are simple! Scrabble bee is held on a Tuesday evening in October. Team Trivia is held on a Tuesday and Thursday in March.
Office Volunteer
This opportunity would involve working in our office 1-2 hours each week performing office tasks such as filing, preparing mailings, and helping staff where needed.
Board of Directors
Fond du Lac Literacy services is seeking dynamic leaders to serve on its Board of Directors to help provide leadership for the adult education field. Elected board members meet every other month and serve on various committees such as funding or outreach.
